Book Launch Q&A: Michael Okon Author of 'Monsterland Reanimated' @iammichaelokon

Michael Okon is an award-winning and best-selling author of multiple genres including paranormal, thriller, horror, action/adventure and self-help. He graduated from Long Island University with a degree in English, and then later received his MBA in business and finance. Coming from a family of writers, he has storytelling in his DNA. Michael has been writing from as far back as he can remember, his inspiration being his love for films and their impact on his life. From the time he saw The Goonies, he was hooked on the idea of entertaining people through unforgettable characters.

Michael is a lifelong movie buff, a music playlist aficionado, and a sucker for self-help books. He lives on the North Shore of Long Island with his wife and children.

His latest book is the YA Fiction/Monsters/Thriller Monsterland Reanimated.

About the Book:

After Monsterland has imploded, the entire world is thrown into chaos. World leadership is gone, economies have collapsed, and communications are non-existent.  Wyatt must go beyond the
boundaries of his small town to reestablish contact with the outside world, and alert the government about a traitor-in-chief.

During his journey he discovers a new threat released from the bowels of the defunct theme park.

When an army of relentless mummies, a life-sucking ooze called The Glob, and a hybrid reanimated Behemoth rise from the depths of Monsterland, who will survive?

After your book was released, what was the first thing you did when getting ready for your book launch?
I went to Peter Lugars with my agent. It’s become sort of a tradition.

Did you do anything different to spice up your website in lieu of your upcoming book release?
My brother is in charge of my website,, and yes he definitely enhanced it to meet the themes of the second book, Monsterland Reanimated.

Did you ever consider using a PR agency to help you promote your book or did you prefer the DIY route?
Yes, and it was not a great experience. My mom has taken over the role of publicist and made this incredible publicity machine.

What are your views on social media for marketing your book?
Social media is everything when it comes to getting your name out there. I am personally not a big fan of social media though. My in-house publicist runs my social media sites.

What social media has worked best for you?
All of them, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter.

Did you time your book launch around a certain holiday?
The Monsterland series has come out the past two Friday the 13th

Any tips for those authors wanting to set up a successful book launch?
Get on social media and offer your book for free to everyone possible.
