After your book was released, what was the first thing you did when getting ready for your book launch?

I was prepared to do a professional Virtual Blog Tour both in the UK and the US.  Promotion via reviews and bloggers is extremely important today. Reviews and word of electronic mouth

After that, what was your next step?

I Purchased ads on kindle/Amazon and directly contacted other bloggers.

Did you do anything different to spice up your website in lieu of your upcoming book release?

My UK publicist designed the website and it is in French and English as the books are available in both languages as my publisher is French and distributed by Hachette Livre in 60 countries.

Did you ever consider using a PR agency to help you promote your book or did you prefer the DIY route?

I use professionals; however, I personally add followers to LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram all available platforms.  On LinkedIn, for example, I am approaching 14,000 connections.

Were finding reviews a top priority for you and, if yes, how did you approach that?

Years ago, before Kindle was flooded with self-published authors, I ran a free give away and yens of thousands of readers uploaded the book.  Following that, I made the top 40 books sold on Kindle.  Most readers liked Cold Lonely Courage, a few did not for various reasons.  I believe that Wolves at Our Door is a better and more exciting book.  There will probably be another Madeleine Toche during WWII novel, but that will come after Under No-Man’s Land, the prequel to everything.

Some reviews were obtained via the blog tours others through folks who read the anchor novel in the Madeleine Toche series, Cold Lonely Courage.

What are your views on social media for marketing your book?

It is quite important to build your social media presence.  I have almost 14,000 connections on LinkedIn and a decent following on Twitter and several hundred reviews on Goodreads.

What social media has worked best for you?  LinkedIn

Did you write a press release, and do you think it worked for you?

It was done for me and professionally laid out and covered all the bases.  It got me an article on Female First in the UK.  FF has one million readers each month.

Did you revamp your author’s page at Amazon in any way to prepare for the launch (https://authorcentral.amazon.com/)?

The publisher/distributor have control over everything but the author page.  I made sure it was up to date and entertaining and had current information.

Did you have other books you offered for free in order to help sell your present book?

I can no longer offer my books on Amazon/Kindle or elsewhere for free.  The price of the paperback and e-book editions is controlled by the publisher and Hachette Livre.

Did you set up book signings and, if so, how did that work for you?

I have done several book signings and question and answer sessions, and they were successful and fun to do.

Did you create a book trailer?

Did you time your book launch around a certain holiday?

  No

What was the best money you ever spent on your book launch?

 Blog Tours

Any tips for those authors wanting to set up a successful book launch?  Use or at least consult with a professional if you intend to do it yourself.

I think it’s money well spent to use Pump Up Your Book Sales.  I hired them years ago and they’ve grown into an award-winning book promotion site.  I especially like interacting with Dorothy, she’s excited about her work and my books.
She was happy to hear that I was interested in another tour, some nine years later.
