INTERVIEW

After your book was released, what was the first thing you did when getting ready for your book launch?

I posted the book all over my social media.

After that, what was your next step?

I tried to get people to review it for me. I have a pretty loyal following, and they often volunteer to read for me.

Did you do anything different to spice up your website in lieu of your upcoming book release?

Yes. It is front and center on my website as the “new release.”

Did you ever consider using a PR agency to help you promote your book or did you prefer the DIY route?

I do it myself. However, I am considering hiring someone. I am a teacher, and time is hard to come by.

Were finding reviews a top priority for you and, if yes, how did you approach that?

Reviews are the way to sell books. Unfortunately, finding someone to review isn’t as easy as it used to be. Many bloggers prefer author interviews, and as time goes on, the upcoming generation isn’t reading as much. I did ask my current tour company to get me as many reviews as possible. Once the reader gets engaged, it’s hard to put the book down.

What are your views on social media for marketing your book?

That is how I do it. I have found that Facebook and Twitter are the most successful means.

Did you have other books you offered for free in order to help sell your present book?

I have 11 books published on Amazon. Yes, giving away your other books is a great way to get attention.

Did you set up book signings and, if so, how did that work for you?

I have done book signings before. I usually sell one or two books when I do. I need to get back into that.

Did you time your book launch around a certain holiday?

The only time I tried to do that was with my book Easter’s Lilly. I wanted to release it around Easter, but it ended up being a December release. It worked out well because many people bought it as a Christmas gift for their loved ones who were avid readers.

Any tips for those authors wanting to set up a successful book launch?

Giving away free books is always a great idea. Do some book signings, post the book launch all over your social media, and try to get some ARC (Advanced Reader Copies) reviewed. You can put the review of the books in the front few pages. Find someone you know gives good tours, and maybe investigate them a little if you’ve never used them before. Check other authors who have used them. Last but not least, GET YOURSELF REVIEWS! Reviews sell books.
