Book Launch Q&A: Stephanie F. Tumba, Author 100 DATES AND A WEDDING #booklaunch @pumpupyourbook

Born and raised in Paris, France by Congolese parents, Stéphanie Tumba is a London-based international entrepreneur with interests in fashion, leisure, production, publishing, toys and hobbies and property.

Since Stéphanie Tumba’s been a kid, she always had an overflowing Imagination with a slight tendency to hyperactivity. Today, business lady by day and writer by night, she has always read and written songs, poems, or stories sometimes short, sometimes long, sometimes comical, occasionally sarcastic and sometimes dark & suicidal, depending on her mood, the music she has in her mind, the people she met and the amount of alcohol drunk on the day.

She strives to achieve a life that is balanced between her business interests, the projects and causes she is passionate about, and her friends and family.

Recently, we are thrilled to announce that she has released her first novel called 100 Dates and a Wedding and is now available on Amazon and other platforms.

After your book was released, what was the first thing you did when getting ready for your book launch?

To be honest, I cannot really remember what I have done. I was surely excited. I had an amazing team for the UK launch, and I could not expect any better and I was far from being stressed out. I could not wait to see my public.

I am assuming I prayed to make sure that everything goes well.

Did you ever consider using a PR agency to help you promote your book or did you prefer the DIY route?

We used a PR agency to help us promote the book. In fact, we have been interviewed and featured in a couple of magazines and had a few podcasts.

Were finding reviews a top priority for you and, if yes, how did you approach that?

Yes, it was not such a priority. However, even though the book is very easy to ready and you can read a date/chapter per day, the number of pages can be quite scary for a few readers. So, we find it rather challenging to find “brave” readers.

What are your views on social media for marketing your book?

Social Media is fun, and it allow us to interact directly with our readers. However, in the UK and USA, I don’t feel as a self-publish book that advertising is interesting and profitable. The price per link on Facebook for example can represent us to 75% of the price of the royalties. And not everybody will be interested in your book when clicking so I found advertising on social media quite pricey for self-publishers.

What social media has worked best for you?

Facebook drives a lot of interactions but Instagram lead to most of our sales.

Did you revamp your author’s page at Amazon in any way to prepare for the launch (https://authorcentral.amazon.com/)?

Yes, I did, and I do it every time I have an update.

Did you have other books you offered for free in order to help sell your present book?

We were offering some extracts for free.

Did you set up booksignings and, if so, how did that work for you?

I did set up one in the UK and one in France for the French version upon the launches. It was fun and interesting to interact directly with the audience and share our dating experiences.

Did you create a book trailer?

No, I did not.

Did you time your book launch around a certain holiday?

We launch the book the same week as Valentine Day.

What was the best money you ever spent on your book launch?

The venue in London.

Any tips for those authors wanting to set up a successful book launch?

The 5 main tips I will give are:
1.      Pick the right venue for your book;
2.      Prepared your talk; and
3.      Develop an author platform and website
4.      Organize a blog tour;
5.      Set yourself a budget and stick to it!
